If you came to Siargao for surfing, then you probably want to stay as close as possible to Cloud Nine Beach – the best surfing spot on the island. Ocean 101 resort offers the best possible location for that, at a very reasonable budget.
Ocean 101 is one of the longest standing resorts in Siargao. It is by no means grandiose, but its consistency means it has managed to survive and thrive through the years. It might not have the ultimate surfer vibe you’d expect, but it is one of the very few resorts who offer something surfers love the most – direct access to the beach!
In this case, the beach in question is no other than Cloud 9 – the most famous surfing spot in the Philippines. Considering the fact this resort is quite nice very modestly priced, there are plenty of reasons to make Ocean 101 your home while staying in Siargao.
The staff are friendly and polite but also not too well trained. This isn't a resort where you can expect personal attention and help with special requests.
The resort is very large and the gardens and gazebo areas are very nice. Everything is really clean and very well maintained.
The rooms are all clean and functional, but nothing too fancy. The real issue is the fact there is no Wi-Fi in them, but this is unfortunately quite common in Siargao.
There's no swimming pool but the beach area is exceptional.
The location is amazing if you want privacy and stay close to Cloud 9 Beach. Only 10 minutes drive from all the bars and restaurants over at General Luna.
It's quite hard to find good quality 3 stars resorts in Siargao - it's mostly either luxury or hostels. This one is probably the best of the lot, and is very reasonably priced.
The fact there is no pool or facilities is somewhat disappointing, but easily mitigated by the spectacular beach and view of the sunset the resort provides. That said, if you are looking for more of an all-inclusive resort that has better facilities, Ocean 101 can’t give you that. If you are set on staying close to Cloud 9 and budget isn’t an issue, then perhaps Siargao Bleu can be a better choice.
With only 31 rooms and a very large space, the resort is perfect for all types of tourists. The vast space provides ample privacy to couples, but also means children can run through the gardens and beach and have a blast without keeping their parents too occupied.
Ocean 101 has been around for many years, but since Siargao wasn't too well developed it isn't easy to find too many reviews of the place online. That's why we'll have to base our judgement mainly on the feedback we have received directly from our clients who went there. The general feedback is good, even if most say the resort is quite basic. Don't expect anything extraordinary here, and you'll be happy with your stay for sure. The rooms are nice and clean, breakfast is good and the views of the sunset / sunrise is fantastic. Overall, a really good resort and a very pleasant experience. There were some complaints about rooms being a bit old, especially the lower category ones. Also, there's no Wi-Fi in the rooms, only in the public areas so keep that in mind. The staff is a bit unattentive to guests, so you'll need to speak to them directly if you need anything, and possibly remind them if they forget.
What do guests love about Ocean 101?
Some things to be aware of before booking:
Considering the fact this area is more peaceful but still just a short drive from the main street – Ocean 101 could be a very good option for people who don’t even want to surf. If you just want to enjoy a beautiful beach and a good resort overall, then this is a great place to stay at. This way you can save some money by not staying at the main area of General Luna, but still have a lot of fun.
If you don’t have too high of a standard when it comes to accommodation and just looking for a very solid 3 stars beach resort, then Ocean 101 will be a perfect choice. There’s a good reason why it is one of the oldest and most reputable resorts in Siargao – it is without a doubt one of the best mid-range beach resorts on the island.
